Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have turned back six vessels attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz using unauthorized routes, according to state television.
A report on Monday said the vessels were intercepted overnight by the navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which fired warning shots before forcing them to change course. The ships had reportedly tried to transit through routes not approved by Iranian authorities.
State media earlier mentioned an unspecified “incident” involving one vessel but provided no further details.
The development follows a similar incident on Saturday, when the Guards said they halted four vessels in the southern part of the strait after issuing warning shots.
Tensions in the vital waterway remain high, with Iran effectively enforcing tight control over traffic in the Strait of Hormuz since the outbreak of the Middle East conflict in late February.
