WhatsApp to add private view counts for Channels

28 July 2026 14:36 Updated: 28 July 2026 14:36

WhatsApp is set to introduce a new feature aimed at making its Channels more interactive, allowing administrators to track how many followers view each post.

Currently, WhatsApp Channels enable individuals and organisations to share updates with large audiences and conduct polls to gather opinions. With the upcoming “private view counts” feature, channel administrators will be able to see the number of views each post receives, helping them better understand audience engagement.

According to WhatsApp, once the feature is rolled out, a view counter will appear below each post, displaying how many followers have seen it. However, this information will remain visible only to the channel administrators and not to followers, ensuring user privacy.

At present, there is no reliable way to determine how many users have viewed a post. While forward counts offer a rough estimate, they do not accurately reflect total views. The new feature will allow administrators to identify which content resonates most with their audience and plan future posts accordingly.

The feature is currently being tested among beta users on Android and iOS platforms.

WhatsApp has also indicated that a “public view counts” feature may be introduced in the future, which would allow all channel members to see the number of views on each post. However, this feature is still under development.
