Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi has questioned the rationale behind including V. Kamakoti, director of IIT Madras, in a high-level task force formed to reform India’s examination system. Referring to him sarcastically as a “cow urine expert,” she asked why someone with such views was included in a committee tasked with reforming examinations.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday (July 28) during a debate on a bill to amend the law aimed at preventing question paper leaks, Priyanka criticised the high-level task force formed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and headed by Nandan Nilekani.
She said the committee includes former intelligence chief Tapan Deka, former ISRO chairman S. Somanath, former education secretary Anita Karwal and former Bihar chief secretary Amrit Lal Meena, along with V. Kamakoti. Referring to Kamakoti’s remarks in 2025 about the “antibacterial” and “antifungal” properties of cow urine, she sarcastically described him as a “cow urine expert.”
Priyanka also targeted newly appointed Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi. She alleged that a person who had supported the release of convicts in the Bilkis Bano case was appointed education minister, saying the decision sent the wrong message to the women of the country.
Her remarks triggered a heated reaction in Parliament. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju accused her of character assassination inside Parliament and demanded that the remarks be expunged from the official record. Education Minister Pralhad Joshi also demanded evidence to support Priyanka’s allegations.
Speaker Om Birla directed Priyanka not to make such allegations without evidence. In response, Priyanka said she would provide evidence to substantiate her remarks.
