Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain Bakul has expressed optimism that the Super Specialised Hospital under Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) will become fully operational within the next six months, offering world-class healthcare services under a modern management framework.
The minister made the remarks on Thursday (2 July) while responding to questions from journalists after attending a ceremony for the handover of microscopes and laboratory equipment to the Department of Pathology at Dhaka Medical College.
Addressing a question on whether the hospital would operate like a private healthcare institution, Sakhawat Hossain said the facility would remain fully government-owned but would be managed under a modern, corporate-style administrative structure.
“The hospital will operate through a company-based management system while remaining a non-profit, state-owned institution,” he said.
The health minister said the hospital would be run following internationally acclaimed models such as Thailand’s Bumrungrad International Hospital and Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital, featuring a one-stop emergency service and advanced patient care systems.
“We have already developed the organisational structure and provided the necessary equipment. This will be a high-standard hospital offering quality healthcare services,” he said.
The minister added that the government would determine service charges to ensure that ordinary citizens can access world-class treatment at affordable costs. He also noted that both local and international experts would be engaged whenever necessary to maintain international standards of care.
“We hope the Super Specialised Hospital will become fully operational within the next six months,” he added.
