Former minister Abdul Latif Siddique has been sent to jail by the International Crimes Tribunal-2 in connection with a crimes against humanity case over the 2013 Shapla Chattar killings.
The order was passed on Thursday (July 30) at around 1:00 pm by Tribunal-2, led by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury.
Earlier, on Monday (July 27), the tribunal issued arrest warrants against 31 accused, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, in connection with the Shapla Chattar massacre.
Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam said Abdul Latif Siddique, who served as the then textiles and jute minister, was named as Accused No. 10 in the case and is alleged to have been one of the planners behind the 2013 killings at Shapla Chattar.
Acting on the tribunal’s arrest warrant, detectives of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) arrested Latif Siddique from his residence in Gulshan-1 at around 6:00 pm on Wednesday (July 29).
He remained in DB custody until being produced before the tribunal on Thursday.
Latif Siddique’s brother, Kader Siddique, also appeared at the tribunal during the proceedings.
