Sergio Gor, US President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, is set to visit the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar on Friday to assess the situation of displaced Myanmar nationals.
Gor is scheduled to travel directly from Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar, where he will receive briefings on the overall humanitarian situation and ongoing assistance for Rohingya refugees.
Earlier on Thursday, Gor arrived in Dhaka and later held talks with Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman at the State Guest House Padma.
Following the meeting, the foreign minister said Bangladesh and the United States continue to enjoy strong bilateral relations under the current government, with cooperation expected to deepen further.
He also requested increased US support for the Rohingya refugee response.
Gor is scheduled to conclude his three-day visit to Bangladesh on Saturday after meeting Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
