Following the resignation of India’s Education Minister amid the NEET exam paper leak controversy, the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has claimed the move as a victory for its sustained protest campaign. The party’s founder, Abhijit Dipke, has now called for the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that he bears political responsibility for the police action against student protesters.
Speaking to journalists at his residence in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, on Thursday (July 30), Dipke claimed that the police crackdown on students marching toward Parliament in New Delhi on July 20 was carried out under the direction of the Home Ministry. However, he did not provide any evidence to support the allegation.
Dipke said the movement against the NEET paper leak had been entirely peaceful and conducted within the framework of the Constitution. Despite this, he argued that the treatment of protesting students was inconsistent with democratic values.
He stressed that safeguarding democracy is not solely the responsibility of opposition parties but also of ordinary citizens, who must remain vigilant in defending their constitutional rights.
The CJP founder also criticized India’s judicial system, alleging that several central investigative agencies had been used for political purposes. He said key national institutions had failed in their responsibility to strengthen democracy and resist growing authoritarian tendencies.
Dipke also took aim at newly appointed Education Minister Prahlad Joshi, saying that some of the minister’s past remarks had already sparked controversy and raised questions about the message being sent to the public through his appointment.
He further criticized yoga guru Baba Ramdev over his recent comments on the protests. Dipke said demonstrators had peacefully carried portraits of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar during the movement against the paper leak and argued that there was no basis for portraying the protests as disrespectful to Indian culture. Instead, he suggested Ramdev should focus more on the affairs of his own organization.
Dipke also endorsed Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s recent demand for Amit Shah’s resignation. He argued that if the government genuinely believes his organization is being directed or funded from abroad, it would amount to a failure of the Home Ministry to safeguard national security.
“If such allegations are true, the Home Minister cannot evade responsibility for the country’s security apparatus,” Dipke said.
The NEET paper leak controversy has triggered weeks of nationwide protests by students and civil society groups. Following the Education Minister’s resignation, political pressure on the government has intensified. Dipke’s demand for Amit Shah’s resignation has now added a new dimension to the growing political debate surrounding the issue.
