Three members of the same family, including a two-year-old child, were killed after a truck ran over their motorcycle in Dighalia upazila of Khulna on Friday night.
The motorcycle rider was critically injured in the accident.
The victims were identified as Farzana Khatun, 22, wife of Shihab Sheikh of Kalia upazila in Narail; their two-year-old daughter Maymuna; and Farzana’s younger sister Rubia Khatun, 16. Shihab Sheikh sustained serious injuries and was admitted to hospital for treatment.
The accident occurred around 10:30 pm in the Ambariya-Domra area of Gazirhat Union in Dighalia.
According to police, the family was travelling to Narail on a motorcycle when a goods-laden truck coming from the opposite direction struck the vehicle.
The motorcycle went underneath the truck, leaving the three passengers dead at the scene.
Police seized the truck after the crash and initiated legal proceedings.
An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
