Dhaka: A three-member bench of Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1, along with the prosecution team, on Saturday inspected the Taskforce for Interrogation (TFI) cell—widely known as the alleged “Aynaghar” (House of Mirrors)—located at the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-1 headquarters in Uttara, Dhaka.
The tribunal delegation visited the facility at around 11:00 a.m.
The inspection team included Tribunal-1 Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumdar, member Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud, and Justice Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.
Also present were Chief Prosecutor Md. Aminul Islam and prosecutors Mizanul Islam, Gazi MH Tamim, Faruk Ahmad, Shaikh Mahdi, Shahidul Islam Sardar, and Tasmirul Islam, along with other members of the prosecution team. Lawyers representing the accused also took part in the inspection.
Earlier, on July 21, Tribunal-1 approved the prosecution’s request to inspect the facility. On that day, the Chief Prosecutor sought permission to visit the alleged secret detention centers, commonly referred to as “Aynaghar,” operated by RAB, the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), and the Detective Branch (DB).
In the application, the prosecution alleged that during the Awami League’s prolonged rule, political opponents were unlawfully detained, tortured, and subjected to enforced disappearances at these facilities. The tribunal subsequently ordered the inspection as part of its proceedings.
