A teenage girl from Bangladesh was rescued in an unconscious state from a border village in India’s West Bengal, in what police suspect to be a human trafficking attempt.
The girl, believed to be around 14 to 15 years old and a resident of Dhaka, was found by local residents in Swarupnagar on Saturday. After regaining consciousness, she was handed over to the police.
According to police sources, the teenager had fallen into the hands of traffickers and was taken across the border into India. However, sensing possible risk, the traffickers allegedly abandoned her and fled.
During initial questioning, the girl told police that she had left her home in Dhaka two days earlier, saying she was heading to her aunt’s house in Satkhira. On the way, she encountered two familiar individuals who offered to accompany her, claiming they were traveling in the same direction and would safely take her to her destination.
Trusting them, she agreed to go along. She later told investigators that the two companions gave her something to drink during the journey, after which she lost consciousness and remembered nothing further.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify the suspects and determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
