The government has unveiled plans to establish four new polytechnic institutes and four engineering colleges as part of a major initiative to modernise technical and technological education across Bangladesh.
Education and Primary & Mass Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon announced the plan on Saturday while addressing a memorial discussion and merit award ceremony at Dhaka Polytechnic Institute, held to commemorate the July Mass Uprising.
Calling on young people to prepare for the future, Dr. Milon urged students to develop skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, mechatronics, electric vehicles (EV), semiconductor design and cybersecurity.
“Rather than only seeking traditional jobs, students should become technology entrepreneurs and job creators,” he said.
The minister also announced plans to transform Dhaka Polytechnic Institute into a state-of-the-art “Center of Excellence” through a Bangladesh-China collaboration, in line with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s vision for technical education. He added that dedicated BRTC buses would be provided for students, with similar transport initiatives planned for polytechnic institutes across the country.
The programme was chaired by Md. Mustafizur Rahman Khan, Principal of Dhaka Government Polytechnic Institute. Among those present were Sanjida Islam Tuli, MP (Reserved Seat); Directorate of Technical Education Director General Abul Khair Md. Akkas Ali; DSHE Director General Prof. Dr. Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel; Bangladesh Technical Education Board Chairman Engr. Md. Ruhul Amin; and Central Chhatra Dal President Md. Rakibul Islam Rakib.
