Dhaka: China will never waver from its commitment to strengthening friendly relations with Bangladesh, regardless of how the global situation evolves, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen said on Monday.
Quoting Chinese President Xi Jinping, the ambassador said, “China will always remain a trusted good friend, good neighbor, and good partner of Bangladesh.”
He made the remarks while addressing a joint training program titled “Comparative Governance Forum 2026”, organized by the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) at its auditorium in Dhaka.
Ambassador Yao said practical cooperation between Bangladesh and China is expanding steadily within a structured framework and reaching new heights. He emphasized that exchanging governance experiences is an important pillar in building a Bangladesh-China community with a shared future in the new era.
He also praised the initiatives of Bangladesh’s new government, saying it has prioritized improving people’s living standards through development-oriented policies since assuming office.
According to the ambassador, Prime Minister Tarek Rahman’s people-centered, pragmatic, and efficient leadership has brought a new dimension to national governance. He said this historic phase has laid a solid foundation for the next “Golden 50 Years” of Bangladesh-China relations.
Yao noted that both countries have agreed to advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and better align their respective development strategies.
He added that significant political consensus has been reached on key projects, including the comprehensive management of the Teesta River, modernization and expansion of Mongla Port facilities, and the advancement of the China-Myanmar-Bangladesh Economic Corridor.
Describing Prime Minister Tarek Rahman’s official visit to China in June as a complete success, the ambassador said it marked a milestone in bilateral relations.
He further stated that building a China-Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era means elevating bilateral ties beyond the current framework of cooperation to a new strategic level based on mutual trust, shared interests, and solidarity.
The training program covers topics such as Chinese modernization in national governance and governance capacity, China’s four major global initiatives, and the Global South.
Yao said the course has three key features: emphasizing practical experience, addressing contemporary needs, and promoting mutual learning.
He described governance experience-sharing as one of the strongest bridges connecting the hearts of the people of Bangladesh and China.
Expressing hope for the participants, the ambassador said they would gain a deeper understanding of the principles behind Chinese modernization and explore a development path suited to Bangladesh’s own national circumstances.
He recalled that during Prime Minister Tarek Rahman’s official visit to China in June, leaders of both countries agreed to elevate their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and jointly build a Bangladesh-China community with a shared future. They also agreed to strengthen exchanges on governance.
Yao encouraged participants to focus on practical learning by adopting policy approaches and governance methods in areas such as national administration, poverty alleviation, and digital governance that could contribute to Bangladesh’s economic and social development.
He also urged them to translate their newly acquired knowledge into concrete actions to modernize Bangladesh’s governance system and become the next generation of builders of Bangladesh-China friendship.
The ambassador concluded by wishing the Comparative Governance Forum every success.
The event was attended by Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir as the chief guest. Fudan University Vice President Prof. Chen Zhimin joined the opening ceremony as the special guest, while BIISS Director General Major General Rizwanur Rahman also addressed the program.
