The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 has ordered investigators to submit a probe report by 4 October in a crimes against humanity case linked to the killing of 17 people in Dhaka’s Jatrabari during the July Uprising.
The directive was issued on Sunday by a three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, instructing the investigation agency to complete its work within two months.
The order came after four accused—including former Dhaka-5 lawmaker Kazi Monirul Islam Monu—were produced before the tribunal, according to Prosecutor Faruk Ahmed.
Following their appearance, the accused were formally shown arrested in the case. The tribunal also instructed the investigation agency to comply strictly with the timeline and submit its findings by the following date.
The other accused include former Officer-in-Charge of Jatrabari Police Station Abul Hasan, former general secretary of Jatrabari thana Awami League Harunur Rashid Munna, and former Dhaka South City Corporation ward councillor Shafiqul Islam Khan.
According to the prosecution, at least 17 people were killed in Jatrabari on 19 and 20 July 2024 during the July Uprising.
Prosecutor Faruk Ahmed said preliminary findings indicate the involvement of the four accused, who are already in custody in connection with other cases. They were brought before the tribunal under production warrants to be formally shown arrested in this case.
The tribunal had earlier, on 22 July, ordered that the accused be produced before the court.
