Children from various educational institutions in the capital took part in a painting competition at the National Parliament Complex on Wednesday to commemorate July Uprising Day, expressing the spirit of the July movement through art.
The competition, titled “July ’24 Through Colours and Brushes”, was organised by the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat at the conference room of the North Plaza of the National Parliament.
The event featured two age categories: children aged 5 to 8 years and 8 to 12 years. Participants depicted themes of patriotism, national history and the July uprising, reflecting their understanding of the movement through colourful paintings.
The competition was visited by MP Shaukat Ara Akter and Barrister Md Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, Secretary of the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat.
Speaking after touring the exhibition, Shaukat Ara Akter said, “July is not merely a period in time; it symbolises the nation’s spirit and a profound source of inspiration. The children’s paintings beautifully reflect that spirit and will help foster historical awareness and patriotism among the younger generation.”
Barrister Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan said the artworks clearly illustrated how children perceived the July uprising.
“Such meaningful initiatives provide the next generation with an opportunity to learn more about the country’s history and other significant national events,” he said.
Senior officials of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat were also present during the event and encouraged the young participants.
