The Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka on Wednesday observed Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir, commemorating the events of August 5, 2019, when India revoked the special constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir.
Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Haider welcomed guests at the commemorative programme held at the High Commission.
Messages from Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar were read out on the occasion.
According to the messages, Pakistan maintained that India’s actions of August 5, 2019, including the revocation of Articles 370 and 35A of the Indian Constitution, could not alter what Pakistan described as the internationally recognised disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir.
The messages reiterated Pakistan’s support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to extending political, diplomatic and moral support to what it described as their right to self-determination. They also called on the international community to implement the UN Charter, international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions concerning the Kashmir issue.
As part of the programme, the High Commission organised a photo exhibition portraying the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. A documentary was also screened highlighting what Pakistan described as human rights violations and violence in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir.
The event was attended by members of the Pakistani community in Bangladesh, media representatives and guests from different walks of life, who expressed solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Special prayers were offered for those killed in the conflict and for peace, justice and the fulfilment of what Pakistan described as the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
