Unidentified individuals attacked the Magura residence of Shakib Al Hasan on Tuesday night (5 August), damaging parts of the property, police said.
The incident occurred around 8:45pm at his house in the Keshab Mor area of the district, where assailants reportedly hurled bricks, shattering several windowpanes.
Officer-in-Charge Abdullah Al Mamun of Magura Sadar Police Station said no injuries were reported. Police were deployed at the scene, and an investigation is underway.
Initial suspicions suggested that petrol may have been poured on the main gate and set on fire, but officers later said they found no evidence of a petrol bomb attack.
A relative of Shakib said the full extent of the damage was not immediately clear, adding that an ailing family member was inside the house during the attacks.
Meanwhile, a video circulating on social media appears to capture the sound of an explosion, though police have not verified its authenticity.
Shakib, a former Bangladesh captain, was elected from the Magura-1 constituency as an Awami League candidate in the 2024 general election. He is also among the accused in a murder case filed over the death of a protester during the 2024 July uprising.
Authorities said further details would be shared as the investigation progresses.
