The Bangladesh Embassy in Uzbekistan observed July Mass Uprising Day with due solemnity, honoring the sacrifices of the martyrs and highlighting the vital role of youth in building a democratic, prosperous, and discrimination-free Bangladesh.
The daylong programme began with a discussion attended by members of the Bangladeshi community in Uzbekistan. Messages from the President and the Prime Minister were read out, and a documentary on the July Mass Uprising was screened.
The first phase concluded with a special prayer for the departed souls of the martyrs, as well as for continued peace, progress, and prosperity in Bangladesh.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Dr Mohammad Monirul Islam paid tribute to those who lost their lives during the uprising and emphasized the significance of the movement. He urged all Bangladeshis to contribute from their respective positions to building a new Bangladesh inspired by the spirit of July.
The second phase featured a panel discussion titled “Youth as a Change Maker in a Changing World,” bringing together academics, students, and distinguished figures from various universities in Uzbekistan.
Among the speakers were Aziz Nadirov, Rector of TIFT University; Muzaffar Jalalov, Rector of Sarbon University; Mukhtar Omarov, President of the Uzbekistan Economic Assembly; and Akbar Yusupov, Editor-in-Chief of Tashkent Times.
In his remarks, Ambassador Islam highlighted the leadership and contributions of Bangladesh’s youth in driving positive political, economic, social, and cultural transformation. Referring to the July–August Mass Uprising, he said the courage and determination of the younger generation had strengthened the nation’s aspirations for a modern and inclusive democracy.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment—under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman—to empowering youth and expanding their role in national development.
The ambassador also stressed the importance of harnessing the energy and creativity of young people in both Bangladesh and Uzbekistan to deepen bilateral cooperation in sectors such as agriculture, information technology, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, textiles, climate action, food security, sports, and culture.
Other speakers highlighted the longstanding cultural and religious ties between the two countries and expressed optimism that increased youth engagement would further strengthen friendship and collaboration.
