Professor Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal has been named as an accused in a crimes against humanity case over the alleged attack on University of Dhaka (DU) students during the July mass uprising.

Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim confirmed the submission of the investigation report to reporters on Thursday.

According to the prosecution, the investigation agency conducted a lengthy probe into the alleged crimes against humanity before submitting its findings to the Chief Prosecutor’s Office.

The report is now under review, after which a formal charge sheet will be filed before the tribunal.

Earlier, Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam said that formal charges would be submitted to the tribunal after the investigation report is thoroughly examined.

During proceedings in a separate July uprising-related case against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, the tribunal was presented with a recorded phone conversation between Hasina and former DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Maksud Kamal.
