The newly appointed Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bangladesh, Stephen Rodriques, on Thursday presented his credentials to Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, reaffirming the UN agency’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Bangladesh as the country prepares for its graduation from the Least Developed Country (LDC) category.
During a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Foreign Minister welcomed Rodriques and congratulated him on assuming his new responsibilities. He reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to working closely with UNDP to advance the country’s development priorities and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Dr. Rahman commended UNDP’s longstanding contribution to Bangladesh’s socio-economic development, highlighting its role in supporting poverty reduction, governance reforms, climate resilience and sustainable development initiatives.
Referring to Bangladesh’s ongoing preparations for LDC graduation, the Foreign Minister expressed hope that UNDP, together with the wider United Nations system, would continue supporting the country in addressing the challenges and opportunities arising from the transition period.
Rodriques thanked the Foreign Minister for the warm welcome and reiterated UNDP’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Government of Bangladesh. He praised the country’s remarkable socio-economic progress and its growing leadership in promoting sustainable and inclusive development.
The UNDP Resident Representative also congratulated Dr. Rahman on his election as President of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, describing the achievement as a testament to Bangladesh’s increasing global stature and constructive engagement in multilateral diplomacy.
