Admiral Steve Koehler, Commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, concluded a three-day visit to Bangladesh on Wednesday aimed at strengthening bilateral maritime security cooperation and the long-standing defense partnership between the two countries.
During his visit from August 4 to 6, Admiral Koehler met with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Defence Adviser AKM Shamsul Islam, and Bangladesh Navy Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Khondkar Misbah ul Azim. Their discussions focused on enhancing maritime security cooperation and advancing defense engagement between Bangladesh and the United States.
According to the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka, the visit underscored the shared commitment of both countries to promoting security, stability, and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
As part of his itinerary, Admiral Koehler paid tribute to members of the Bangladesh Armed Forces who sacrificed their lives during the 1971 Liberation War by visiting Shikha Anirban, the eternal flame memorial in Dhaka.
He also toured the historic Lalbagh Fort, one of Bangladesh’s most prominent cultural heritage sites.
The U.S. Embassy said the visit further strengthened the longstanding security relationship between the United States and Bangladesh and reaffirmed continued cooperation in maritime and regional security.
