India distances itself from Hasina’s Delhi remarks

India has distanced itself from remarks made by ousted Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina during a press conference in New Delhi on August 5.

Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Friday that the event was organised by a private entity and that the Indian government had no role in organising or supporting it.

He said India did not endorse the statements made by Hasina, particularly those concerning Bangladesh’s interim government.

The Bangladesh government had earlier protested Hasina’s public appearance from New Delhi, accusing her of making provocative remarks against the country and its people.
