The first batch of prefabricated homes has arrived in southern Lebanon, offering temporary shelter to residents displaced by recent conflict.
According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, the units were delivered to the town of Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh, where many homes were destroyed during Israeli attacks.
The structures are currently being stored in the nearby village of Qaqaiyat al-Jisr until debris in Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh is cleared and installation can begin.
Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh is one of three towns included in a “pilot zone” project under the control of the Lebanese army, part of a broader framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel signed in Washington, D.C., in June. The army began deploying to the town late last month as part of efforts to restore stability.
However, tensions persist. Earlier reports indicated that Israeli forces entered the town and constructed an earthen barrier at its eastern entrance overnight on Saturday.
As reconstruction efforts slowly move forward, the arrival of prefabricated housing represents an important first step in helping displaced families rebuild their lives.
