BNP collects 2 nomination forms for presidential election

Dhaka: The ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has collected two nomination forms from the office of the Returning Officer for the upcoming presidential election.

National Parliament Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni and the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General, Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, collected the nomination forms from the Chief Election Officer’s office at the Election Commission building in Agargaon, Dhaka on Sunday morning.

The Election Commission (EC) announced the schedule for the presidential election last Thursday. According to the schedule, August 13 has been set as the deadline for submitting nomination papers, while voting will be held on August 20, EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said.

The EC secretary said the Chief Election Commissioner finalized the schedule in consultation with the Speaker in accordance with Section 5(3) of the Presidential Election Act, 1991.

He added that the overall electoral process would be completed at the Election Commission’s own premises and during a session of the National Parliament, in accordance with the prescribed law.
