The total number of voters for the upcoming local government elections is set to reach 128,632,555, according to the Election Commission.

EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed disclosed the figure to journalists at the Election Commission building in Agargaon on Sunday.

He said people who turned 18 by July 31 are being added to the voter list, bringing the total number of registered voters to more than 12.86 crore.

The Election Commission has already appointed 154 officials as revising authorities to settle claims, objections and applications for corrections to the voter list.

According to a notification issued by the commission, the officials have been assigned across all 64 districts and various cantonment areas. They will handle applications related to inclusion in the voter list, objections and corrections to voter information.

As per the EC’s announced schedule, the draft voter list will be published on August 9, while claims, objections and correction applications will be accepted until August 24.

The revising authorities will settle the applications by August 27. Decisions on the applications will be incorporated into the voter list by August 28, and the Election Commission will publish the updated final voter list on August 31.

According to the latest final voter list, Bangladesh currently has 128,323,240 voters, including 65,212,731 men, 63,109,266 women and 1,243 transgender voters.

With the newly registered voters added, the total is expected to rise to 128,632,555. However, the Election Commission said the figure may increase or decrease slightly before the final list is published.
