A case has been filed against a man in Thakurgaon for allegedly using artificial intelligence (AI) to create obscene images and videos of a young woman and circulate them on social media.

The accused, Mohammad Iqbal Hossain alias Sona Mia, is also accused of threatening the woman and her family members with acid attacks and murder.

The woman’s mother, Mosammat Parvin, filed a complaint with Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station on Sunday. Police subsequently filed a case under the Cyber Security Act.

According to the case statement, the accused became acquainted with the woman through Facebook and allegedly collected some of her personal photographs.

The woman later cut off communication with him and married someone else.

The complaint alleges that Iqbal subsequently became angry with her and began circulating her personal photographs through various social media platforms and mobile numbers.

He allegedly used AI technology to manipulate the photographs and create obscene images and videos, which were then circulated through social media and sent to the woman’s relatives via Imo and WhatsApp. Some of the content was also allegedly uploaded to pornographic websites.

The accused allegedly contacted the woman’s relatives and threatened to attack her with acid and kill her if he found her on the street, according to the complaint.

The family further alleged that on Aug 4, Iqbal threatened the woman and her relatives, warning them against pursuing the matter or contacting police.

The family members said they were living in fear following the alleged threats.

A general diary was previously filed with Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station on Dec 15 last year over similar allegations. The complainant said the alleged activities continued despite the GD, prompting the family to file a fresh complaint.

Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahjahan Ali said police had taken the allegations seriously and filed the case under the Cyber Security Act.

He said Iqbal, a resident of Madhupur area in Baliadangi upazila of Thakurgaon, would face legal action based on the findings of the investigation.
