Police officer injured in attack during anti-drug raid

A sub-inspector of police was injured after being attacked during an anti-drug operation in Lohagara upazila of Narail.

The incident took place around 7:30pm on Sunday (9 August) in the Kochubaria area under Lahuria union. A case was filed at Lohagara Police Station on Monday morning (10 August).

The injured officer, Sub-Inspector Khokon Hawlader, is posted at the Lahuria Police Investigation Centre under Lohagara police station’s jurisdiction.

According to police, a team led by SI Khokon Hawlader conducted a raid at a tea stall near the Lahuria market bus stand based on a tip-off. During the operation, police were searching a suspect named Harun, son of Nabi Hossain from Kochubaria village.

At that time, several local individuals, including Kamal, Shyamal and Akidul, allegedly attacked the police using sticks and wooden rods, leaving the SI injured. Shortly after, another group of 10 to 15 people joined the attack.

The attackers forcibly snatched the suspect, along with yaba (a type of illegal drug), from police custody and fled the scene.

Local residents later rescued the injured officer and took him to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Lohagara Police Station Inspector Ajit Kumar said a case has been filed against 10 accused individuals. Police have so far arrested three suspects involved in the incident, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accused.
