Inter Miami and Argentina captain Lionel Messi is reportedly preparing legal action against Argentine media outlets after a drone allegedly intruded on the private funeral of his father, Jorge Messi, and captured images of the family during the ceremony.
Jorge Messi, 68, died on August 7 after a prolonged illness.
He was Lionel Messi’s father, longtime agent and one of the most influential figures in the footballer’s career.
The funeral was held privately on Sunday, August 9, at a cemetery in Pérez near Rosario. Messi attended with his wife Antonela Roccuzzo and their three children, while the family maintained strict security and requested privacy.
According to reports, footage from the private farewell was obtained and broadcast without the family’s consent.
Journalist Fran Casaretto reported that Messi had become frustrated over the alleged privacy violation and had confirmed plans to take legal action against media organisations involved.
The reported legal move comes as Messi and his family are mourning Jorge, whose role in his son’s life extended far beyond that of a father.
Jorge managed Lionel’s career and helped guide him from his early days in Rosario through his move to Barcelona at the age of 13.
The incident has also generated criticism of media intrusion, particularly because the family had deliberately chosen a private ceremony rather than a public wake.
Reports have not yet provided details of the specific legal claims, defendants or damages being sought.
