The bodies of five climbers have been recovered from Yalung Ri mountain in Nepal, nine months after they went missing following a massive avalanche in November 2025.
The bodies were found on Monday (August 10) at an altitude of around 17,717 feet by Nepal-based mountaineering expedition company Dreamers Destination Treks and Expedition.
Among the five climbers, three were foreigners and two were Nepali nationals.
The foreign climbers were identified as Canadian citizen Marco Di Marcello, Italian citizen Marcos Kirchler and German citizen Jakob Schreiber.
The two Nepali guides and climbers were Padam Tamang and Mere Karki. Purba Tenzing Sherpa, chief operating officer of Dreamers Destination Treks and Expedition, said the recovered bodies had been handed over to the authorities.
They will be returned to their respective families after legal procedures and autopsies are completed. Yalung Ri is located in the remote Rolwaling Valley of Dolakha district in northeastern Nepal.
The mountain stands at 18,471 feet (5,630 metres) above sea level. Due to its relatively less technical climbing requirements, Yalung Ri is popular among novice mountaineers.
However, climbers need basic mountaineering skills to navigate its glaciers, where even a moment of carelessness can lead to serious danger.
