Two more children have died with measles symptoms in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours, while 979 new cases of measles or measles-like symptoms have been reported, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The DGHS released the updated figures on Tuesday, August 11.
According to the report, no death was confirmed to have been caused by measles itself during the 24-hour period. The newly reported cases include both laboratory-confirmed measles infections and children showing measles-like symptoms.
The latest figures bring the number of deaths among children with measles symptoms since March 15 to 782. During the same period, 98 children have died after being confirmed as having measles.
Combining the two categories, the country has recorded 880 deaths linked to measles and measles-like symptoms since March 15.
Of the total, 98 deaths were confirmed to have been caused by measles, while 782 involved children who died after developing symptoms associated with the disease.
The continued reporting of new cases and symptom-related deaths has kept measles a major public health concern, with health authorities continuing to monitor the situation and update the figures regularly.
