A low-pressure system may form over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas within the next 24 hours, bringing light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds to Dhaka and other parts of the country.
Some areas may also experience moderate to heavy rainfall. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department gave the forecast on Tuesday (August 11). According to the 24-hour forecast issued from 9am Tuesday, the monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate over the north Bay of Bengal.
The axis of the monsoon extends from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Gangetic West Bengal through southern Bangladesh to Assam. Under its influence, many places in the Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and one or two places in the Rangpur, Rajshahi and Dhaka divisions, may experience temporary gusty winds and light to moderate rain or thundershowers. Day and night temperatures are likely to remain nearly unchanged across the country.
Rainfall is expected to increase on Wednesday and Thursday (August 12-13), with rain likely in most areas of Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and some areas of Dhaka, Rangpur, Rajshahi and Mymensingh divisions. Some areas may experience moderate to heavy rainfall during this period. Daytime temperatures may fall slightly on Thursday.
The rainy trend may continue on Friday and Saturday (August 14-15), with thundershowers forecast in most areas of the southern and eastern regions and in some parts of the remaining divisions. Although temperatures may fluctuate slightly, the overall weather pattern is expected to remain largely unchanged, the meteorological department said.
