Bangladesh Bank has launched a public awareness campaign to promote the use of Bangla QR as part of its efforts to expand cashless transactions across the country, with private lender Dutch-Bangla Bank partnering in the initiative.
The “Cashless Farmgate” campaign was held on Saturday (July 4) at the Indira Road area near Tejgaon College and at Agora Super Shop in the capital’s Farmgate area.
Finance and Planning Adviser to the Prime Minister Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir attended the event as the chief guest. Special guests included Bangladesh Bank Executive Director and spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan and Dutch-Bangla Bank Managing Director Ehteshamul Haque Khan.
Speakers said Bangla QR can play a vital role in making digital payments simpler, safer and more transparent. Under the unified QR code system, customers of different banks and mobile financial service providers will be able to make payments using a single QR code.
They said the system would simplify payment acceptance for merchants while allowing customers to make fast and hassle-free transactions.
The speakers also noted that Bangla QR has been introduced as part of Bangladesh Bank’s broader initiatives to reduce dependence on cash and build a cashless economy. Wider adoption of the technology, they said, would expand the country’s digital payment ecosystem and strengthen financial inclusion.
In addition to senior officials of Dutch-Bangla Bank, local traders, customers and pedestrians participated in the campaign. Participants were introduced to the payment process using Bangla QR and informed about its benefits, while being encouraged to adopt cashless transaction
