US military strikes targeting Houthi positions in Yemen killed 153 civilians and wounded 243 others in 2025, according to a Pentagon review cited by a US official on Tuesday (August 11).
The Pentagon assessment found that all civilian casualties recorded by the US military in 2025 resulted from three strikes carried out in Yemen in April.
The assessment, prepared as part of the Pentagon’s annual civilian casualty report, has been submitted to the US Congress and obtained by the Associated Press (AP). A Pentagon official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the report is expected to be released publicly in the coming months.
The civilian toll marked a sharp increase from 2024, when the Pentagon reported that US military operations killed two civilians and injured two others.
The three 2025 strikes targeted areas in and around Sanaa, the Houthi-controlled capital, as well as the Ras Isa fuel port.
The deadliest attack hit Ras Isa, killing 80 people and injuring 171 others. The strike triggered a massive fire at the port, with oil tankers engulfed in flames. Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV later broadcast footage from the scene showing bodies scattered across the area.
US Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees American military operations in the Middle East, said at the time that the strikes were aimed at cutting off the Houthis’ sources of fuel and revenue.
