Gold prices have risen in Bangladesh for the third consecutive time, with the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) increasing the price by Tk 1,133 per bhori. The price of 22-carat gold has been set at Tk 236,779 per bhori, including VAT.
BAJUS announced the new prices in a statement on Thursday (August 13). The revised rates came into effect at 10am today.
According to the statement, the price of pure gold, known locally as Tejabi gold, has increased in the local market. Considering the overall situation, BAJUS has revised the prices of gold, including VAT.
Under the new rates, one bhori (11.664 grams) of 22-carat gold will cost Tk 236,779, including VAT. The price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk 226,165 per bhori, while 18-carat gold will cost Tk 194,260 per bhori. Gold sold under the traditional method will cost Tk 158,630 per bhori.
BAJUS said the new rates will remain effective at all jewellery shops until further notice. However, making charges will apply depending on the design of the jewellery.
As VAT is already included in the selling price of gold and silver jewellery, retailers cannot collect VAT separately from customers. BAJUS also said its existing rules will remain in effect for jewellery exchanges and purchases, excluding applicable VAT, making charges and the cost of stones.
