Yemen has no plans to enter into a new ceasefire agreement with the Houthi movement, Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) Chairman Rashad al-Alimi said, according to Middle East Eye.
Al-Alimi said the government does not support another ceasefire that would repeat the failures of previous agreements.
Instead, he called for a “lasting and sustainable peace” based on restoring state authority, ensuring that all weapons are under government control and preserving Yemen’s sovereignty.
He said the focus of the international community has shifted away from simply seeking an agreement with the Houthis and toward protecting Yemen, international maritime navigation, regional stability, and global peace and security.
Al-Alimi also warned that Houthi actions would no longer go unanswered, saying the government would respond through deterrence and broader measures when necessary.
He said the government’s strategic objective is to restore state institutions and end the Houthis’ seizure of power.
