Bangladesh continued their remarkable performance on Australian soil, taking firm control of the Test against Australia in Darwin with an impressive batting display on the second day.
After restricting Australia to 198 in their first innings, Bangladesh’s batters built on the bowlers’ excellent work and put the hosts under sustained pressure. At the tea break on the second day, Bangladesh had reached 286 for 3, giving them an 88-run lead.
Bangladesh added 105 runs in 27 overs during the session, losing just one wicket as they strengthened their position.
The highlight of the session was Tanzid Hasan’s maiden Test century. The left-handed opener showed patience and confidence to reach his first hundred in Test cricket, playing a key role in Bangladesh’s dominant batting performance.
Najmul Hossain Shanto also produced a composed innings and remained unbeaten on 79 at the tea break. Mushfiqur Rahim was accompanying him at the other end on 26.
Bangladesh had already made a strong start to the match with the ball, dismissing Australia for 198. Their batters then capitalised on the favourable position, putting together a substantial first-innings total and extending their lead.
The visitors’ performance has been particularly impressive given the conditions and the quality of the opposition. Bangladesh have now dominated Australia across five consecutive sessions, first with the ball and then with the bat.
With seven wickets still in hand, Bangladesh will be looking to build an even bigger first-innings advantage in the final session of the day. A substantial lead could put Australia under considerable pressure in the remainder of the Test.
The match has therefore turned into a potentially historic opportunity for Bangladesh, who are seeking to translate their strong start into a memorable result in Australia.
