Security has been tightened across Gopalganj ahead of August 15, the death anniversary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, with five platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) deployed at key locations across the district.

Additional police and Armed Police Battalion (APBn) personnel have also been deployed, while intelligence surveillance and patrols have been intensified.

Checkpoints have been set up at important entry points and other strategic locations.

In Tungipara, heightened security has been reported around the Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Mausoleum Complex, important roads, government installations and public gathering spots.

The mausoleum’s three gates have been kept closed as security forces remain on alert. Eight platoons of APBn have also been deployed there.

A joint patrol involving police, RAB, BGB and APBn personnel was conducted across Gopalganj on Friday, led by District Commissioner Md Arif-Uz-Zaman and Superintendent of Police Md Habibullah.

The authorities said the enhanced security measures have been taken to prevent any untoward incident and maintain law and order during August 15-related activities.
