A vibrant evening of qawwali and Sufi music was held at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Friday, featuring performances in Bangla, Hindi and Urdu.
Organised by the National Press Club, the programme began at 7pm on the club premises.
Popular qawwali and Sufi music artistes Samir Qawwal, Syed Sazzad Hossain Arman and their respective groups performed at the event.
The performers presented a range of popular qawwalis, including “Ali Ali Maula Ali”, “Parda Hai Parda”, “Amar Deho Mon Bole Nabi Nabi”, “Ishq-e-Nabi Dil Mein Paida Karo”, “Dama Dam Mast Qalandar” and “Khwaja Baba Khwaja Baba Marhaba Marhaba”.
National Press Club General Secretary Ayub Bhuiyan delivered the welcome address, while club President and poet Hasan Hafiz formally inaugurated the programme. Kader Gani Chowdhury, convener of the club’s Special Events and Hospitality Subcommittee, moderated the event.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan, Social Welfare, Women and Children Affairs Minister Prof AZM Zahid Hossain, former Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Anwarullah Chowdhury and Manabzamin Editor Matiur Rahman Chowdhury attended the programme.
Members of the National Press Club’s management committee, including Treasurer Bakhtiar Rana, Abdul Hai Shikder, Syed Abdal Ahmed, Kazi Rawnak Hossain, Shahnaz Begum Poly, Mohammad Momin Hossain, Masumur Rahman Khalily, AKM Mohsin and Zahidul Islam Rony, were also present.
