Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi has said that relations between Bangladesh and India are steadily flourishing on the strong foundations of shared history, mutual respect and partnership.
He also said that cooperation between the two countries is advancing in several key areas, including trade, connectivity, security and healthcare.
Trivedi made the remarks on Saturday at an event organized in Dhaka to mark India’s 80th Independence Day.
The Indian High Commissioner said there is further scope to strengthen the multifaceted relationship between the two countries, particularly in trade and culture. He also highlighted significant opportunities for India and Bangladesh to work together in the renewable energy sector.
The Independence Day celebrations began on the Indian High Commission premises in Baridhara, Dhaka, with a series of formalities. The programme opened with the hoisting of the national flag in a festive and dignified atmosphere.
Following the flag-hoisting ceremony, India’s national anthem was performed collectively. Officials and employees of the Indian High Commission, Indian citizens residing in Dhaka and invited guests attended the event.
As part of the formal proceedings, special messages from the President and Prime Minister of India were also read out.
Highlighting people-to-people contact and shared aspirations between the two countries, Trivedi said that the common aspirations and close connections between the peoples of Bangladesh and India are the true lifeblood of their enduring friendship.
Speaking about the relationship between the two countries, he said their shared history, mutual respect and partnership provide a strong foundation on which bilateral ties are continuing to grow.
He noted that cooperation is progressing not only in trade, connectivity and security but also in important sectors such as healthcare.
Trivedi also emphasized the need to further expand the multifaceted relationship, including trade and cultural exchanges, and said there is considerable scope for India and Bangladesh to cooperate in renewable energy.
