6 more die of measles symptoms

Six children died with measles-like symptoms across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, while 1,101 children were reported to have measles or measles-like symptoms during the same period.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported the figures in its latest measles update issued on Sunday (August 16).

According to the report, six more children died with measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours. However, no death from confirmed measles was recorded during the period.

Since March 15, a total of 809 children have died with measles-like symptoms, while another 99 have died from confirmed measles. The combined death toll from measles and measles-like symptoms has now reached 908.

During the past 24 hours, 80 children were diagnosed with measles, while 1,021 were reported with measles-like symptoms. A total of 963 children were newly admitted to hospitals, while 850 were discharged.

DGHS data shows that since March 15, the country has recorded 142,797 suspected measles cases and 17,880 confirmed cases.

Of the total patients, 124,457 have been hospitalised, while 119,939 have already been discharged.
