A speaking test will be introduced alongside written examinations in English under the new primary education curriculum to assess students’ communication skills, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj said on Sunday.

He made the remarks at a training workshop at the National Academy for Primary Education (NAPE) in Mymensingh.

Hajjaj said the new curriculum would not rely solely on written examinations for English. The speaking test is planned to assess how effectively students can communicate in English.

He also announced plans to introduce a unique ID for every primary student as part of an integrated IT ecosystem aimed at modernising education and student information management.

The state minister said the government also plans to improve school health, safety and the learning environment, including installing necessary wash blocks inside school buildings.

He expressed hope that visible and qualitative changes could be brought to the primary education system within the next two to three years, with emphasis on curriculum development, teacher training, values-based education, culture, sports and technology-based learning.
