A half-day awareness programme on Bangla QR-based digital transactions was held in Bogura as part of efforts to expand the use of digital payments at the grassroots level.

The programme was jointly organised by Bangladesh Bank, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Australian Government  recently at Naz Garden in Bogura city. Mutual Trust Bank PLC supported the programme.

The event focused on increasing awareness among merchants, customers, bank officials and other stakeholders about Bangla QR-based digital payments and encouraging the use of digital payment methods as an alternative to cash in everyday transactions.

Bangladesh Bank Bogura Executive Director Md. Sakhawat Hossain attended the programme as chief guest. Bangladesh Bank Director A.N.M. Moinul Kabir chaired the event, while Mutual Trust Bank PLC Chief Digital Officer Khalid Hossain attended as special guest. Bangladesh Bank Additional Director Israt Jahan moderated the programme.

Bangladesh Bank Additional Directors Parvez Anjam Munir and Moin Uddin discussed the use, benefits and practical application of Bangla QR in cashless transactions. Officials from different banks, customers and business representatives also participated in the programme.

The Bogura campaign is part of Bangladesh Bank’s broader effort to expand an interoperable national QR payment ecosystem. According to Bangladesh Bank’s 2025-26 policy document, 42 banks, seven mobile financial service providers and three payment service providers were offering Bangla QR facilities at that time.

Bangladesh Bank’s 2025-26 Monetary Policy Review also says payments made through Bangla QR are required to be credited to merchants’ accounts instantaneously. The central bank has also been supporting wider adoption of Bangla QR among retail businesses through local government and municipal mechanisms.

Bangladesh Bank describes Bangla QR as an interoperable payment system designed to connect different payment providers within a common digital payment framework. Its financial inclusion reporting has also highlighted the potential of Bangla QR to bring small businesses and micro-entrepreneurs into the formal financial system.

The Bogura programme therefore focused not only on introducing the technology but also on building practical awareness about how Bangla QR can be used by local businesses and consumers in everyday transactions.

The continuation of such programmes across different regions is expected to support wider adoption of Bangla QR and expand access to faster, digital and interoperable payment services beyond major urban centres.
