A total of 127 passengers returned to Dhaka from Nepal on an alternative flight after being stranded for nearly seven hours due to a technical problem with a Biman Bangladesh Airlines aircraft at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.
The passengers arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 12:10am on Monday night.
The Biman flight, BG-372, was scheduled to depart Kathmandu for Dhaka at 4pm on Sunday. After leaving the terminal and heading towards the runway, a technical problem was detected. The aircraft was subsequently brought back to the terminal and the passengers were asked to disembark.
Babul Akter, Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ country manager in Kathmandu, told reporters that the passengers were disembarked after a technical fault was detected. At the time, it was not possible to say exactly how long repairs would take.
Business-class passengers were given access to the airport lounge, while other passengers were also provided with necessary facilities in accordance with airline regulations, he said.
To bring the stranded passengers home as quickly as possible, Biman arranged an alternative aircraft. According to the airline’s general manager for public relations, the replacement aircraft departed Dhaka for Kathmandu at 10pm.
The 127 passengers were then flown back to Dhaka on the alternative aircraft, which landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 12:10am.
