Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam has ordered strict action against irregularities, harassment and illegal financial transactions in the issuance and renewal of trade licences.

Following allegations of harassment and bribery, DSCC has relieved revenue department official Mostafa Nuruddin Ahmed of his duties with immediate effect and issued him a show-cause notice.

He has been asked to explain in writing within three working days why administrative and legal action should not be taken against him.

Mostafa was serving as a licence and advertisement supervisor at the Miscellaneous Collection Branch of the DSCC Revenue Department in Zone-4.

The action followed a joint meeting between the DSCC and the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) on Sunday, where local businesses raised concerns about trade licence services, law and order, traffic congestion and other business-related issues.

At the meeting, Moulvibazar Business Association President Mohammad Ali Bhutto alleged that during an on-the-spot trade licence renewal camp on June 23 and 24, the supervisor collected cash from businesspeople promising to renew 22 trade licences for the 2025–26 fiscal year.

However, the licences had not been renewed even after more than a month and a half. When business owners later contacted the official, he allegedly delayed the process on various grounds.

After hearing the allegation, the DSCC administrator ordered immediate action. Following an initial verification, Mostafa was relieved of his duties.

DSCC Chief Revenue Officer Jonaed Kabir Sohag said the city corporation would maintain a “zero tolerance” policy towards corruption, irregularities and harassment in services provided to citizens and businesses.

He said further legal and administrative action would be taken against the official after his written response to the show-cause notice is received.
