US President Donald Trump has threatened to bomb Oman if the Gulf state “gets in the way” of a US deal with Iran over the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump issued the warning on Monday as efforts to resolve the conflict with Iran remained stalled and a 60-day memorandum of understanding deadline expired.
Oman has been playing a key role in negotiations over the reopening and management of the strategic waterway.
Trump also urged Iran to surrender, while insisting that the Strait of Hormuz should eventually become US territory.
His remarks have raised concerns over further escalation in the already tense Gulf region.
The Strait of Hormuz is a vital global energy route, and disruptions there have already sharply reduced shipping traffic and increased pressure on oil supplies and prices.
