Bangladesh national team striker Al-Amin has been handed a 15-match suspension by FIFA following a disciplinary incident during the four-nation tournament in the Maldives in June.
The incident occurred during Bangladesh’s match against hosts Maldives on June 7 as tensions escalated following a series of controversial refereeing decisions.
Players from both sides became involved in heated exchanges that eventually turned into a physical altercation.
Bangladesh manager and midfielder Mirajul Islam had earlier been fined by FIFA after the tournament. FIFA has now imposed a 15-match ban on Al-Amin and taken fresh disciplinary action against Mirajul.
Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) General Secretary Imran Hossain Tushar confirmed the developments.
Al-Amin will not have the opportunity to appeal the suspension.
The match was part of the Diamond Jubilee Football Tournament, organised to mark the 75th anniversary of Maldives football. It was a crucial match for the Bangladesh Olympic team, with both sides eventually settling for a 1-1 draw.
The trouble began in stoppage time when Bangladesh’s Piyas Ahmed collided with Maldives’ Hassan Inaz during a challenge for the ball. Referee Sekaran Senthilnathan awarded a free-kick to Maldives, a decision that angered the Bangladeshi players.
Mirajul, who came off the bench to protest the decision, was shown a red card. Al-Amin was then sent off for strongly disputing the referee’s decision. After receiving the red card, he lost his temper and pushed the referee.
Play resumed after a brief stoppage, but tensions remained high. Later, Maldives’ Ibrahim Nasir and Bangladesh’s Manzurur Rahman became involved in an argument during a challenge in Bangladesh’s half.
Players from both teams quickly gathered and confronted each other, resulting in a major scuffle.
The situation also triggered tension among Bangladeshi supporters in the stands. Coaching staff and officials from both teams eventually intervened to restore order.
Despite the chaos, the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
