A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking a declaration that Abdul Hannan Masud, nominated by the National Citizens Party (NCP) from Noakhali-6 in the 13th parliamentary election, is disqualified from serving as a member of parliament.
Advocate Ibrahim Khalil confirmed the filing of the petition at the relevant High Court branch on Wednesday (August 19).
He said Nazmul Hossain, a resident of Hatia in Noakhali, filed the petition alleging that Hannan Masud had committed fraud in his election affidavit.
The petition is expected to be heard by a High Court bench comprising Justice Raziq-Al Jalil and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury, the petitioner’s lawyer said.
The petitioner has sought directions to the government, through the law ministry secretary, to declare Hannan Masud’s parliamentary seat vacant and take necessary steps and immediate action in this regard.
