The government has announced a nationwide programme to observe Eid-e-Miladunnabi (PBUH) on August 26 with due religious solemnity and dignity.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs announced the programme in a press release on Wednesday, signed by its public relations officer Md Abubakar Siddique.
The programmes were finalised at an inter-ministerial meeting held on August 13, chaired by Religious Affairs Secretary Munsi Alauddin Al Azad NDC. Senior officials from the ministry, Islamic Foundation and representatives of various ministries, departments and agencies attended the meeting.
As part of the observance, the President and Prime Minister will issue separate messages marking the occasion. The national flag will be hoisted at all government, semi-government and autonomous institutions, private buildings and installations of the armed forces.
Major traffic islands, lamp posts, roads and other important locations in Dhaka will be decorated with national and colourful flags, along with banners bearing the Kalima Tayyiba.
Special prayer gatherings will be held at mosques across the country, including the Bangladesh Secretariat Mosque. Divisional, district and upazila administrations, city corporations, municipalities and the Armed Forces Division will also organise discussions and prayer sessions within their respective jurisdictions.
The Islamic Foundation will arrange religious programmes on electronic media, including waaz sessions, seminars and talk shows. It will also organise Quran recitation, hamd-naat, poetry recitation, cultural competitions for students and an Arabic sermon-writing competition.
A commemorative publication will be released, while a month-long Islamic book fair will be held at the southern premises of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and other electronic media outlets have been requested to broadcast special programmes marking the occasion. Newspapers have also been asked to publish special supplements.
Educational and cultural institutions across the country—including universities, district Shilpakala Academies and the Bangladesh Shishu Academy—will organise discussions, prayer gatherings, cultural events, quizzes and competitions highlighting the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), as well as the values of peace, tolerance, human dignity, women’s rights and universal brotherhood.
The Bangladesh Shishu Academy will arrange special programmes for children, including hamd-naat, discussions and essay competitions.
Improved meals will be served at military and civilian hospitals, prisons, government children’s homes, child development centres and residential facilities for senior citizens on the occasion.
Bangladesh missions and embassies abroad will also observe the day with due respect.
Relevant ministries and departments have been instructed to take special measures to maintain peace and law and order during the celebrations.
