The monsoon remains fairly active over Bangladesh, while a well-marked low-pressure area is currently positioned over the Bay of Bengal. As a result, rain or thundershowers are likely in several parts of the country, with moderate to heavy rainfall expected in some areas, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

The forecast was issued for the 24 hours from 6am Friday (August 21).

According to the forecast, many places in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and some places in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty winds. Moderate heavy rainfall may also occur at some places across the country.

Daytime temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged nationwide, while nighttime temperatures may rise slightly.

Meanwhile, rain has continued across the country for several days. In the past 24 hours, the highest rainfall recorded was 30mm. Rain or thundershowers, along with occasional heavy rainfall, may continue in different parts of the country over the next five days.

Meteorologist Omar Faruk said the well-marked low-pressure area that had been over Jharkhand and adjoining Bihar in India is now located over Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas. It may gradually weaken and merge with the axis of the monsoon.

The extended portion of the monsoon axis currently stretches from Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana through the center of the well-marked low-pressure area, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal and central Bangladesh to Assam. Meanwhile, the monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderately active over the northern Bay of Bengal.

Moderate to heavy rainfall may also occur at some places during these three days. Day and night temperatures may fall slightly on Saturday, while temperatures are likely to remain nearly unchanged on Friday and Sunday.
