Newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will take the oath of office on Friday (August 21) evening. Security has been tightened around Bangabhaban and adjacent areas ahead of the swearing-in ceremony.
Additional police personnel were seen deployed around Bangabhaban and its surrounding areas on Friday afternoon. Extensive preparations have also been made inside Bangabhaban for the ceremony.
The swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected president is scheduled to be held at 7:30pm in the Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban.
President’s Press Secretary Md. Sarwar Alam said all preparations for the ceremony have been completed. The Cabinet Division will conduct the swearing-in ceremony.
Acting Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Barrister Kaiser Kamal will administer the oath to Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani will conduct the ceremony.
More than 1,200 guests have been invited to Bangabhaban for the occasion. The prime minister, cabinet members, members of parliament, political leaders, diplomats and other prominent personalities are expected to attend.
Meanwhile, security measures have been strengthened around Bangabhaban ahead of the ceremony. Additional police personnel were seen deployed at the entrances to Bangabhaban and on nearby roads. Special arrangements have also been made for the entry of invited guests and other individuals involved in the ceremony. Law enforcement agencies have increased their activities in the areas surrounding Bangabhaban for security reasons.
On Thursday night, the Election Commission issued a gazette notification formally declaring Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir elected as the country’s 23rd president. With this, the formal process of the presidential election was completed.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will formally assume the office of president after taking the oath.
