Ahmadul Kobir, Malaysia: Malaysia and Pakistan have agreed to further strengthen cooperation between their security and law enforcement agencies. Discussions focused on expanding collaboration in areas including counter-terrorism, policing, immigration, anti-narcotics operations, cybercrime and the International Transfer of Prisoners (ITOP).
Malaysian Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail took part in a series of official programmes in Islamabad and Rawalpindi on the first day of his working visit to Pakistan.
He began the visit by touring the Pakistan Monument, where he received a guard of honour from the Federal Constabulary. He later paid tribute to the country’s martyrs by laying a wreath at the Martyrs’ Memorial and reciting Al-Fatihah.
The Malaysian minister then visited the Islamabad Police Headquarters, where he received a ceremonial guard of honour from the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police. He inspected the guard of honour and witnessed a counter-terrorism demonstration.
During the visit, Saifuddin Nasution was also briefed on various police modernisation initiatives and viewed several assets and facilities showcasing the use of modern technology to strengthen the capabilities of Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies.
As part of the key programme, Saifuddin Nasution held a bilateral meeting with Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control, Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi.
The meeting discussed the future direction of Malaysia-Pakistan cooperation in security and law enforcement. Key areas included counter-terrorism, police cooperation, immigration management, anti-narcotics efforts, cybercrime prevention and the International Transfer of Prisoners.
Both ministers also agreed in principle to establish a Working Group between the two ministries to ensure effective follow-up on areas of cooperation.
The Working Group is expected to facilitate regular communication and strengthen coordination between the two countries in security and law enforcement matters.
On the first day of his visit, the Malaysian Home Affairs Minister also took an interest in Pakistan’s technological capabilities and innovation. He attended a dinner at the National Aerospace Science and Technology Park (NASTP) in Rawalpindi.
During the programme, he gained an insight into Pakistan’s technological development and innovation initiatives, particularly in aerospace technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity.
The first day of the visit concluded with a dinner and reception at the DOME, Damanko, in Islamabad.
The ceremonial reception and hospitality extended to the Malaysian minister by the Pakistani side reflected the close relations between the two countries. Both sides are expected to further deepen existing cooperation in security and law enforcement while exploring new areas for joint collaboration.
